A secluded bush camp well off main roads by the headwaters of the small Big River.

Dispersed level sites, well shaded and separated by Tea-tree and Peppermint Gum, backed by steep forested slopes. The flats may flood and the black silt can be sticky if wet.

Wrens, tree climbers and kookaburras are common.

Well away from the other Upper Big River camps, the Snowy Road flats are popular with 4-wheel drivers.

This campsite is in Big River State Forest (Upper)

The gem in this state forest is the heritage classified Big River, however with many kilometers of forest roads, it is a great spot for car/4wd based exploring.

Access

This campsite is accessable with regular 2wd vehicles.

Getting there

From Mere Junction: North down the Eildon-Warburton Rd (gravel) 5.9k to a Y road junction. Right (east) 7.4k on the Big River Rd, right (south) 1.6 k (graveled, level, a little overgrown) to just over the WP7 bridge. Better access to sites on the right a further 50-100m further on.
